Background Information

IES, Inc. was established as an environmental consulting firm in 1986.  Our company evolved from the restructuring of Somerville Engineering, Inc., a consulting firm with over 25 years experience.  This restructuring allowed IES to more effectively address the needs of its clients, while still retaining a competent and versatile staff.  IES has, at its disposal, the expertise of numerous professionals qualified in a wide variety of disciplines.

During the beginning years of IES, our clients included Shawmut Bank, the original Bank of New  England, BayBank, Bank of Boston Fleet Bank, and UStrust.  Although these were substantial financial institutions, none presently are around to help IES celebrate our 26th Anniversary.  Over the past 26 years, in addition to the change in clients, there have been tremendous changes in the environmental industry in both the regulatory and technical aspects.

From the outset, IES has realized sound and steady growth.  All of our initial projects were located in eastern Massachusetts area but, as our reputation for quality work has become known and respected, requests for the Company’s services have been generated throughout the New England States, as well as New York and New Jersey.

This welcomed growth pattern has enabled IES to expand its staff of professional engineers and geologists so as to remain expertly outfitted to deal with the ever evolving environmental concerns of our clients.  Corresponding with this growth, we have augmented our equipment so as to utilize the sweeping advances in environmental technology.  This has, in turn enabled us to expand our repertoire of environmental services to include new areas of expertise such as remediation projects and some in-house testing services.

As indicated, we pride ourselves on the overall depth of experience and knowledge that we possess.  Our versatile staff of engineers, geologists, and auxiliary specialists enables us to “tailor make” a team of professionals uniquely qualified to address the particular needs of a given project.  Thus, both the immediate and long-term needs of the client can be met expeditiously and according to the highest of professional standards.

Our clients have included financial institutions, real estate professionals, conveyance attorneys, private businesses, developers, franchises, insurance companies and individuals.

In performing our professional endeavors, we have always emphasized close company/client coordination, thereby enabling prompt and effective satisfaction of all project requirements.

Through the operating principles described above, we dedicate the Company’s efforts and strive to meet our clients’ needs, from concept to completion.

Management Plan

As any given property is intrinsically unique, each environmental assessment is conducted by a carefully selected team of professionals.  Preliminary information derived from conversations with the client allows us to develop an appropriate Management Plan, prior to commencement of the project.

First, one or more informal exploratory conferences must be held.  These conferences will involve a description of the project and discussion of the overall needs and wants of the client.  This allows for careful determination of the personnel and investigative requirements of the project.  Financial considerations are individually addressed and a project budget and timetable is developed with the utmost attention to detail.  According to these criteria, a basic Project Management Plan will be formulated according to the client organization’s most exacting specifications.

Second, as a given Project Management Plan takes definite shape, IES will select from its professional staff the engineers, geologists and/or other technical specialists best equipped by educational background and field experience to carry the project through to its successful completion.

Service Locations

With the continued growth of our regional offices and affiliates, IES has the capabilities to provide our clients with quality service, at very competitive prices, in the entire New England area, as well as New York, and New Jersey.

We feel that our continued success is the direct result of our commitment to the principle that client satisfaction is of the utmost importance, and we hope that you will allow IES to demonstrate this philosophy to you throughout the years to come.
